Coastal Location Ideas for Couples by NI Wedding Photographer, Gemma G Photography

Choosing the right location for pre-wedding couples photos is key for capturing memories. These images will last a lifetime. Northern Ireland Wedding Photographer, Gemma G Photography – shares her favourite coastal locations to help you select the perfect place to represent you as a couple.

Mussendem Temple and Downhill Beach

This is a wonderful location that can provide you with so much variety in your gallery. From the iconic temple itself, to the cliffs. Then the view of the trainline, down to the beach and gorgeous grasses and dunes below on Downhill. We are spoilt for choice with epic backdrops and interesting textures.

Portrush and Whiterocks

The seaside town of Portrush is steeped in nostalgia. With cosy and iconic bars like The Harbour Bar. Rugged coastal walks around Ramore Head and then a 5 min drive is Whiterocks Beach with it’s own iconic cliffs, pristine beaches and glorious sunsets. A paradise for any Northern Ireland Photographer like me. This is another great location to consider to add plenty of variety to your final gallery. And don’t forget you can always include and wardrobe change mid session!

Donegal Coastline

You can pick any piece of the Donegal coastline and find an absolute gem of a location. Many beaches are off the beaten tourist trail and completely private. If you are unfamiliar with the area, it’s advised that you do your research. Ensure you are planning your couples shoot during the appropriate tide, weather conditions and safe access to to the coast itself. With it’s western coast, the hour leading up to sunset is an ideal time to meet to make the most of the spectacular light.

First up is Murvagh Beach. A favourite as you have forest, laneways and a beautiful beach all at the one location.

Murder Hole beach, is a bit of a trek but absolutely worth it for the views.

And then there’s Bundoran, another spot full of nostalgia for so many of us. Cosy pubs, cliff walks, natural pools and gorgeous beaches galore. We really are spoilt for choice with so many beautiful locations along our entire coastline.

A few of my favourite locations are Marble Hill Beach, Dooey, the Rosguill Peninsula or pretty much anywhere along the famous Wild Atlantic Way. Although when choosing a location for your couples shoot – first and foremost it’s great to choose a location that you have a personal location to. Epic backdrops are all well and good but it’s the people in the photos that matter the most. And that’s you.
